Pune: On Wednesday morning, a helicopter crashed in Pune’s Bavdhan area, resulting in the tragic deaths of three individuals. According to initial reports, dense fog may have caused the crash. The helicopter was carrying two pilots and an engineer, all of whom died at the scene. The helicopter had taken off from a helipad near a golf course but crashed into a hilly area shortly after and was engulfed in flames.
Upon receiving the crash report, Pune police rushed to the scene. Fortunately, the area where the helicopter crashed was not residential, which helped avoid a larger catastrophe. However, the ownership of the helicopter has not yet been confirmed. Senior Inspector Kanhaiya Thorat from Hinjewadi Police Station stated, “It is unclear whether the helicopter was private or government-owned, as it has been completely destroyed by fire.”
Eyewitnesses captured photos and videos showing thick smoke rising from the burning wreckage. Four fire trucks from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) were dispatched to the site to control the fire.
While the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, police have suggested that dense fog in the area may have been a contributing factor.
