Pune: The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has urged the Indian government to offer refuge to Hindus from Bangladesh under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) due to escalating violence in the neighboring country. What began as unrest over reservation issues has now escalated into widespread chaos and anarchy, with targeted attacks on the Hindu minority.
The organization has reported deliberate killings of Hindus, assaults on their homes, looting of their shops, destruction of temples, arson, rape of Hindu women, and forced displacement. Despite assurances from the Bangladeshi military to protect the Hindu community, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has called on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take immediate action to safeguard Hindus and their places of worship.
In response to the violence, the Samiti has made several demands:
1. The Bangladeshi military must receive strict orders to stop the attacks on Hindus, looting of homes, and assaults on temples and women.
2. The Hindu community in Bangladesh should be relocated to safer areas and provided with immediate security.
3. Compensation should be given for the loss of life and property that the Hindu community has suffered.
4. The Indian government should raise this issue at the United Nations and request a UN delegation to visit Bangladesh.
5. Refuge should be offered to displaced Bangladeshi Hindus under the CAA, considering the current violence might lead to an increase in illegal immigration into India. Strict security measures should be implemented at the Indian border.
The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has warned that if the Indian government does not act promptly, Bangladesh might face a situation akin to Pakistan, with large-scale massacres of Hindus. They also expressed concern that emboldened radical jihadists might incite violence within India with the help of local supporters, thus calling for heightened vigilance from Indian law enforcement and the public.
