New Delhi — India has partially lifted its travel ban to Libya, initially imposed in 2016, but continues to advise its nationals to avoid “non-essential travel” to the African country. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a new advisory on Tuesday, recommending Indian nationals in Libya to exercise caution and avoid inter-province travel by road.

In the advisory, the MEA highlighted the need for Indians in Libya to stay in contact with the Indian Embassy in Tripoli and provided an emergency phone number: +218943992046.

The 2016 advisory had imposed a complete ban on travel to Libya due to significant security threats and challenges to the safety of Indian nationals. The ban, effective from May 3, 2016, was a response to the deteriorating security situation in the region at that time.

The latest advisory marks a partial relaxation of the ban, reflecting an updated assessment of the current security situation in Libya. However, the MEA underscores the importance of remaining vigilant and cautious while in the country.

For further information and updates, Indian nationals are encouraged to maintain regular contact with the Indian Embassy in Tripoli.
