
Pune, January 30, 2025: The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD), Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India, successfully conducted the Meeting of the Technical Committee for Direction (TCD) for Improvement of Animal Husbandry and Dairying Statistics on January 29-30, 2025, at Regents Central Grand Exortica, Pune, Maharashtra.
The event was inaugurated by Shri Kal Singh, Director General (Statistics), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, in the presence of Shri Jagat Hazarika, Advisor, DAHD, Government of India, Dr. Praveen Kumar, Commissioner, DAHD, Government of Maharashtra, Dr. Sheetal Kumar Mukane, Additional Commissioner, DAHD, Government of Maharashtra, Dr. Tauqeer Ahmed, Principal Scientist and Head of Sample Survey, ICAR-IASRI, Pusa, Delhi, and Dr. V.P. Singh, Director, DAHD, Government of India, along with Directors of Animal Husbandry Departments from all 36 States and Union Territories.
Key Discussions and Decisions
The Technical Committee on Direction (TCD) plays a crucial role in guiding the implementation of livestock-related surveys and policies to enhance data reliability for decision-making in the sector.
On Day 1, the committee reviewed the action taken since the previous meeting held on January 16-17, 2024. Discussions focused on the Integrated Sample Survey (ISS) and major livestock product estimates. Key highlights of 2024 achievements were presented, and targets for 2025 were set to improve data collection and policymaking.
A major decision was made to revise the methodology of annual data collection, addressing gaps and improving the statistical framework at the state and UT levels.
A presentation by ICAR-IASRI on the eLISS software showcased advancements in digital data collection under ISS schemes.
Additionally, the meeting featured presentations on best practices in data collection from Uttarakhand, Kerala, and Gujarat, highlighting successful models for other states to adopt.
The committee reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing livestock statistics and ensuring effective policy implementation for the 21st Livestock Census and ISS schemes.
