Bhadradri Kothagudem, Telangana
In a major blow to Maoist insurgency in Telangana, 86 Maoist cadres – including 20 women – surrendered to police on Saturday in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. This marks the largest single surrender in the region to date.
The surrendered cadres belonged to various wings of the outlawed CPI (Maoist), including Revolutionary People’s Committees, CNM cultural units, and local militia groups. Their surrender was formally accepted by Inspector General of Police (IGP) S. Chandrasekhar Reddy.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah welcomed the development, reiterating the government’s appeal for peace. “You are our own. Nobody is happy when a Naxalite is killed,” he said, urging remaining insurgents to return to the mainstream and join the nation-building process.
With this latest development, a total of 224 Maoist cadres have surrendered across the Telangana region in 2025 so far. Police officials say the state’s rehabilitation policy and intensified outreach efforts are contributing to the growing number of surrenders.
Authorities are expected to process the latest group under the state’s surrender and rehabilitation policy, which offers financial aid, skill training, and protection for those giving up arms.
