Pune: Though significant medical development is evident, this progress still hasn’t reached the villages, remote valleys, and tribal hamlets. How are we going to solve their health issues? We speak of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (The world is one family), but what are we really doing for that family? For a nation, religion, and culture to thrive, society must be healthy, said Padma Shri Bhiku Ramji Idate.
The installation ceremony of the General Practitioners Association was held at Neetu Mandke Auditorium on Tilak Road. Present on the occasion were Dr. Naveen Kumar, Director of the National Institute of Virology Pune, outgoing president Dr. Shubhada Joshi, newly elected president Dr. Sunil Bhujbal, and secretary Dr. Bhagyashree Munot-Mehta.
For the year 2025–2026, the following were elected:
- President: Dr. Sunil Bhujbal
- Vice President: Dr. Appasaheb Kakade
- Treasurer: Dr. Sandeep Nikam
- Secretary: Dr. Bhagyashree Munot-Mehta
- Joint Secretaries: Dr. Rajesh Doshi, Dr. Deepak Gandhi, and Dr. Siddharth Shinde
Dr. Naveen Kumar stated that post-COVID-19, the world has undergone major changes. As of 2025, over 15,000 viruses and 234 virus families have been identified, and 300 to 400 new viruses emerge every year. Four new institutes similar to the National Institute of Virology will be established across different regions of India. If we aim to control infectious diseases in the country, it is not possible without a unified and integrated approach. While we cannot prevent viruses, we are prepared to combat them through the National Institute of Virology.
Dr. Sunil Bhujbal said that this year’s motto for the General Practitioners Association is: Prevent diseases, protect health, and promote a culture of wellness. Along with caring for the physical and mental health of doctors, various social initiatives such as health awareness camps will be organized this year. Dr. Bhagyashree Munot-Mehta conducted the program.
A large number of representatives from medical organizations across Pune and surrounding areas were present.
