Hong Kong/New Delhi, June 16 — An Air India flight en route from Hong Kong to New Delhi was forced to turn back shortly after takeoff on Sunday afternoon following a suspected technical issue detected mid-air, sources said.
Flight AI315, operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, had departed Hong Kong for the Indian capital when the pilot reported a potential technical snag and decided to return as a precautionary measure.
According to the Hong Kong Airport Authority, the aircraft requested a “local standby” at approximately 1:00 pm local time and landed safely at Hong Kong International Airport around 1:15 pm.
No injuries were reported, and all passengers and crew are safe.
As of now, Air India has not released an official statement on the incident. The airline is expected to assess the aircraft and arrange onward travel for affected passengers.
Further details are awaited.
