Pune: Students at Sharada Ashram Primary School in Shirgaon, located in the Mawal taluka, can now access practical science education. Henkel has established a state-of-the-art science lab named “Researchers’ World” through its CSR fund, positioning it as India’s first international-level scientific training center. The company has invested 2 million INR in this initiative.
Throughout the year, the lab will offer over 1,500 students from 40+ schools in Mawal taluka the opportunity to engage in 12 environmentally-focused experiments. These activities include paper recycling, creating sustainable items from waste, energy conservation, water recycling, and promoting healthy eating habits. Experts from Henkel’s Mumbai and Pune branches will provide training, enhancing students’ creativity and scientific thinking.
The lab was inaugurated by Sunil Kumar, President of Henkel Adhesive Technologies India, with attendees including Sharada Ashram School trustee and former MLA Prakash Devle, along with Bhupesh Singh, Kunjal Parekh from Henkel’s CSR division, Dr. Prasad Khandagle, and Principal Pradip Lokhande. Sunil Kumar noted that science education in rural areas is often limited to textbooks, which restricts students’ creativity. This lab aims to foster a love for science and provide students with practical knowledge.
Dr. Prasad Khandagle shared that Henkel also supports various programs at Sharada Ashram School, including a space observation center, career guidance, talking schools, a native plant bank, a 15 KW solar power project, e-learning, a Kirtan festival to preserve cultural traditions, and training for eco-friendly Ganesh idol making. Prakash Devle expressed his gratitude for Henkel’s commitment to supporting tribal students.
The event was hosted by Deepali Prajapati, with organization support from Santosh Chavan, Kirtikumar Katkar, Pragya Konduskar, and Manali Bhosale.
