Beijing, December 18: China has reiterated its willingness to collaborate with India to implement mutual understandings reached by their leaders and to restore bilateral relations. The announcement comes ahead of the 23rd meeting of Special Representatives, featuring National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, scheduled to take place in Beijing today.
Speaking during a press briefing, the Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized the importance of respecting each other’s core interests, building mutual trust through dialogue, and resolving differences with sincerity. “China is ready to work with India to implement the important common understandings of our leaders, strengthen mutual trust, and bring bilateral relations back to a stable and healthy path as soon as possible,” said the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
The high-level talks, the first of their kind since December 2019, are expected to focus on managing peace and stability along the India-China border and exploring solutions to the ongoing boundary dispute.
India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar recently informed Parliament that disengagement in Eastern Ladakh has been successfully achieved in areas such as Depsang and Demchok. He underscored that peace along the border is crucial for the development of India-China relations.
In October, India and China reached an agreement on patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), marking a step toward addressing the border standoff that began in 2020. The standoff had strained bilateral ties, following Chinese military actions in eastern Ladakh.
During their meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping emphasized the need for peace and stability along the border, highlighting mutual trust as the cornerstone of their relationship.
Today’s meeting is seen as a crucial step toward improving ties and addressing unresolved border issues between the two nations.
