Pune: The bilateral naval exercise SLINEX-24 (Sri Lanka-India Exercise 2024) was successfully conducted from December 17 to 20, 2024, at Visakhapatnam under the aegis of the Eastern Naval Command (ENC). This edition of the exercise was conducted in two phases: the Harbour Phase (December 17–18) and the Sea Phase (December 19–20).
The Indian Navy participated with INS Sumitra of the Eastern Fleet, accompanied by a Special Forces team, while the Sri Lanka Navy was represented by SLNS Sayura, an Offshore Patrol Vessel, with its Special Forces team embarked.
The inaugural ceremony on December 17 marked the beginning of the Harbour Phase, which included professional and social exchanges between the two navies. The Sea Phase featured a range of joint exercises, including Special Forces operations, gun firings, communication procedures, seamanship drills, navigation evolutions, and helicopter operations.
Initiated in 2005, the SLINEX series of bilateral naval exercises have been regularly conducted to strengthen maritime cooperation. This edition has further bolstered the ties between India and Sri Lanka, contributing to a secure and rule-based maritime domain in the Indian Ocean Region.
The exercise aligns with India’s vision of “Security and Growth for All in the Region” (SAGAR), reflecting its commitment to enhancing regional maritime security and fostering collaboration with neighboring countries.
