
Pune: Dr. M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS New Delhi, visited the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune, where he engaged with faculty, postgraduate, and undergraduate students. During his visit, Dr. Srinivas praised the institution for its exceptional training programs that prepare medical professionals to deliver high-quality healthcare in challenging terrains and environments.
Emphasizing the critical role of specialized fields such as Aviation Medicine, CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) Medicine, and Special Forces Medicine, Dr. Srinivas highlighted the unique challenges faced by the Armed Forces. He stressed the importance of continuous innovation and expertise in these areas to meet evolving military healthcare needs.
Dr. Srinivas also discussed the transformative potential of technology in military medicine. He pointed to advancements such as telemedicine, wearable devices, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML) as pivotal tools to enhance healthcare delivery for the Armed Forces and society at large. Innovations developed for military medicine, including trauma care, haemostatic agents, and emergency response protocols, are already having a significant impact on civilian healthcare systems.
In his address, Dr. Srinivas inspired students with a verse from the Bhagavad Gita, encouraging resilience and dedication to research:
“One who is not affected by happiness and distress and remains steady in both is certainly eligible for liberation.”
Expressing confidence in the students’ potential, he urged them to pursue research with unwavering focus and selflessness, contributing to advancements in medical science and alleviating human suffering.
To mark the occasion, Lt. Gen. Sandeep Thareja, SM, VSM**, Director and Commandant of AFMC, presented Dr. Srinivas with a memento, thanking him for his visit. Lt. Gen. Thareja noted that the interaction would strengthen collaborations between AIIMS and AFMC, further advancing healthcare and medical education.
