Sydney, Jan 8 – A tragic plane crash near Rottnest Island, off the coast of Perth, Western Australia, has claimed the lives of three people, including tourists from Switzerland and Denmark, as well as the pilot, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.
The light aircraft was carrying six tourists when it went down on Tuesday afternoon near the popular holiday destination, located about 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) west of Perth. Three other passengers survived the crash but sustained injuries.
Western Australia’s Premier Roger Cook expressed his condolences at a news conference, saying, “My thoughts go out to the families and friends of the victims. This is no doubt very difficult for everyone involved.”
Rottnest Island, renowned for its scenic beaches and wildlife, attracts thousands of visitors each year. The crash has prompted an investigation by aviation authorities to determine the cause of the accident.
