Anchorage, Alaska – A Boeing 737-900 operated by Alaska Airlines veered off a taxiway and into a ditch at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:43 p.m., according to the Alaska Department of Transportation (DOT). Shannon McCarthy, the DOT’s communications director, confirmed that the aircraft was being maneuvered by two Alaska Airlines mechanics at the time of the incident.
Fortunately, there were no passengers on board, and no injuries were reported. “The mechanics were conducting routine operations when the plane left the taxiway,” McCarthy said.
The circumstances surrounding the mishap are under investigation, and the airline is cooperating with authorities to determine the cause. Airport operations were not significantly disrupted, and recovery efforts for the aircraft are underway.
Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is one of Alaska’s busiest hubs, handling significant passenger and cargo traffic.
