ATLANTA — A Delta Air Lines flight with more than 200 passengers was evacuated on the tarmac at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Friday following an engine issue that prompted an aborted takeoff.
Flight 2668, which was en route to Minneapolis-St. Paul, experienced an engine problem shortly before takeoff. Delta confirmed the flight crew immediately followed established procedures to suspend the takeoff. Officials have not confirmed whether the engine problem was caused by a fire.
During the emergency evacuation, four of the 201 passengers sustained minor injuries. One person was taken to a local hospital, while the other three were treated at the scene.
“Nothing is more important than the safety of our people and customers, and we apologize to our customers for their experience,” a Delta spokesperson said. “Our focus is to address their immediate needs and get them to their destinations safely.”
The incident occurred as a winter storm swept across metro Atlanta and northern Georgia, leaving the area blanketed with inches of snow. A winter storm warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. Saturday, causing significant disruptions to air travel.
A ground stop at Hartsfield-Jackson has been extended until 2 p.m. due to deteriorating weather conditions. By 10 a.m., the airport reported 786 flight cancellations and 421 delays, mostly affecting Delta, Southwest, and Frontier Airlines.
Passengers are advised to check with their airlines for updates as flight disruptions continue.
