247th Army Ordnance Corps Day Celebrations

Pune: Army Ordnance Corps (AOC) units of Southern Command celebrated their 247th Corps Day on 08 April 2022.  The AOC, which is responsible for ammunition, vehicles and stores support to the Indian Army, traces its history as far back as 1775, when the ‘Board of Ordnance’ was formed to ensure systematic distribution of weapons, ammunition and equipment to the British Army. Over the years, the Board of Ordnance under went number of transformations and in 1922 it came to be known as the Indian Army Ordnance Corps. Once India became a Republic in 1950, the prefix ‘Indian’ was dropped and the organisation has been known as the Army Ordnance Corps ever since.

The AOC manages a complex and dynamic inventory comprising of approximately 5 lac items and has always delivered cogent results by ensuring an uninterrupted supply chain, whatever be the constraints.
On this momentous occasion, Lt Gen JS Nain, PVSM, AVSM, SM, GOC-in-C, Southern Command felicitated all ranks and civilian members of the AOC and lauded their professionalism and commitment in ensuring an extremely high standard of Ordnance logistics support to the Indian Army, across the entire spectrum of conflict.
