Muscat: A major accident was averted on Wednesday at the Muscat airport. Air India Express plane got the news of a fire in one of its engines before take off. Seeing the smoke coming out of the aircraft (smoke detected in engine), all the passengers on board were taken out safely. There were 145 passengers on board the plane, including four newborns. All the passengers have been shifted to the terminal building. No passenger was hurt during this. The plane was coming from Muscat to Kochi.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation said in a statement, “Arrangements for relief flights will be made.” Two months ago, an Air India Express flight from Calicut to Dubai had to divert to Muscat after a burning smell emanated from it.
Here, Air India Express informed that the airline’s engineering team is inspecting the aircraft and the incident has been reported to DGCA. All the passengers were evacuated safely and an alternate flight is being arranged to bring the passengers to Kochi.
